Explore the Cape West Coast
Welcome to the tranquil West Coast with its wide, open spaces, charming fishing villages, unspoilt beaches and abundant animal and marine life. From water sports and whale watching to enchanting spring flowers, hiking among the fynbos, mountain biking, birding and fresh seafood, this beguiling year-round destination has it all.
The quaint little fishing village of Paternoster up the West Coast is a must visit place for anyone travelling to the area. Expect picturesque beaches, turquoise sea and white washed houses. Paternoster is also a culinary hotspot with around fifteen restaurants, so your trip could easily turn into a foodie adventure.
We trust that you are well and gearing up for our flower season on the West Coast. By now, you are probably aware that our Head Office of the Saldanha Bay Tourism Organisation (“SBTO”) has moved into the newly renovated Old Station Building in Vredenburg.
The West Coast of South Africa is a beautiful part of our country that attracts tourists from all over the world and with the launch of the new West Coast Way tourism routes earlier this year, this special region is attracting even more visitors.
Hopefield Fynbos Show 24 - 27 August 2017 28th Annual Fynbos show.
Every year, fynbos lovers and volunteers from our town collect and painstakingly arrange more than 500 fynbos species, transforming the Hopefield Sportklub / Sports Club into a horticulturist's fantasy. Annually, a new layout for the hall is designed for the plants collected from the 4 immediate fynbos zones that border on #Hopefield, this allows visitors an up-and-close-and-personal look at the various fynbos species indigenous to the region:
1. The Renosterveld region’s vegetation is dominated by a species of grey-coloured plant called Renosterbos, most likely the reason behind its name. 2. The Sandveld area’s vegetation consists of species of succulents and fynbos that thrive in sandy and dry climates. 3. The Rietveld region is home to reed-like vegetation. 4. The Wetlands are base to unique aquatic species that thrive in waterlogged soil and very distinct ecosystems.
Fynbos guides will assist with questions in the hall, and a world class herbarium will give visitors a clear indication of the plants that are represented in the display.
